On the banks of the IJmeer, in the middle of the Havenkwartier in Amsterdam IJburg, the first almost zero-energy hotel in the Netherlands has been developed. This hotel, called ‘Breeze’, consists of a sky bar, restaurant, fitness and 195 hotel rooms.
The hotel is a nearly zero-energy building based on the Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) concept. The combination of clever use of the natural elements sun, wind, water and earth means that the hotel can largely provide itself with energy. The three most important elements of the EWF concept are the solar panels on the facade and the roof, the climate cascade and the Solar Chimney. The climate cascade acts as a natural heat exchanger and the solar chimney is a shaft in which the solar heat is harvested to heat the building and the tap water. In addition, the hotel will be designed as sustainable as possible, for example by using water and energy-saving devices and facilities.
The development of the Hotel ‘Breeze’ is a collaboration between the Dutch Green Company and Borghese Real Estate. The hotel was completed in 2018.
C2N is involved as consultant sustainability for the project. In doing so, we support the client in processing and submitting the burden of proof.
