New BREEAM-NL v6.1.1: What Does This Mean for Your Project?
At C2N, we closely follow developments in sustainable building. The recent update of the BREEAM-NL assessment guidelines to version 6.1.1 brings important improvements and clarifications. As experienced consultants, we help our clients make the most of these updates during certification processes.
What’s New in BREEAM-NL v6.1.1?
The Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC) has updated the guidelines as of January 13, 2025, to better align with practice and the latest sustainability developments. The key changes are:
• Renovation Projects Now Under New Construction Certification
Where previously, renovation and new construction followed separate processes, renovations can now be certified under the BREEAM-NL New Construction and Renovation assessment guidelines. This streamlines the assessment and provides clarity for clients.
• Better Alignment with the EU Taxonomy
Sustainable investments are playing an increasingly important role. The new guidelines facilitate obtaining an EU Taxonomy declaration, making it easier for projects to meet European sustainability criteria.
• Textual Clarifications and Optimizations
Based on market feedback, several criteria have been refined and clarified. This contributes to a more consistent evaluation and a more transparent certification process.
What Does This Mean for Your Project?
Starting January 27, 2025, it will be mandatory to register new projects under BREEAM-NL v6.1.1. This may impact your ongoing or planned certification processes. At C2N, we are happy to help you understand the impact of these changes on your project.
Our specialists have extensive experience with BREEAM certifications and will guide you every step of the way: from strategic advice to full certification. We ensure that you not only meet the latest requirements but also make the most of sustainability opportunities.
