Construction Start: Sustainable Distribution Center in Amsterdam West

On December 5, 2023, Heembouw started the construction of a distribution center in Halfweg. The distribution center will cover an area of approximately 20,000 m², divided into four units. The construction is commissioned by Sunrise Real Estate, with C2N serving as the delegated client and project manager.

Despite the winter conditions, construction is progressing steadily, and the building is expected to be completed in October 2024. The building will be fully electric and will have an energy label of A++++. In addition to the energy label, sustainability and ecology are central not only during the operational phase but also throughout the construction phase. For example, special birdhouses will be placed in the façade, and all visible installations from the street will be hidden behind ‘green’ walls. A large portion of the parking spaces around the building will be surrounded by green hedges, helping to reduce high temperatures in the summer and providing a home for flora and fauna.

As one of the first buildings in the Netherlands, this facility will feature a battery system to store some of the energy generated by the more than 9,500 PV panels on the roof. This stored energy can be used when the PV panels generate less energy, such as during the night. In this way, we contribute to a sustainable future and aim to accelerate the energy transition.
