Renovation - The Dutch Bank

Since 2004, we have been providing sustainable and financially responsible real estate solutions. With strategic advice and leading projects, we are building the future of real estate.

Key Features: Renovation of existing property, gas-free, material reuse, BREEAM Outstanding

De Nederlandsche Bank has sustainably and future-proofed its headquarters on Frederiksstraat in Amsterdam through a major renovation. SPIE carried out the renovation based on a design that, where possible, restores the openness of the original architecture by Marius Duintjer.

The renovation was executed entirely without natural gas and strongly focused on circularity, including the reuse of materials such as wooden ceiling slats made from old Amsterdam poplar trees. The building is also equipped with solar panels and was designed with careful consideration for biodiversity, health, and flexibility.

A notable feature is the new public area on the ground floor, with open spaces and the exhibition De Nieuwe Schatkamer (“The New Treasury”), located where gold reserves were once stored.

C2N acted as the BREEAM assessor for the project. Lizette van der Feer oversaw the process from design to completion. In June 2025, the project was officially certified with the highest rating: BREEAM “Outstanding”.
