Details: First covered market floor in the Netherlands, featuring an impressive artwork by Arno Coenen.
The Markthal in Rotterdam is an iconic building housing the first covered market floor in the Netherlands. Construction began in late 2009, and the building was officially opened on October 1, 2014, by Her Majesty Queen Máxima. The design of the building, with its unique arched shape, immediately draws attention, but the interior is equally spectacular. The largest artwork in the world, "The Horn of Plenty" by artist Arno Coenen, adorns the inside of the Markthal, earning the building the nickname "Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam."
The Markthal houses 96 unique stalls and 20 retail and food outlets, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
On May 19, 2015, Provast received the BREEAM-NL Completion Certificate with a Very Good score, recognizing the sustainable design and construction features of the building. C2N played a crucial role as BREEAM Assessor in this process, contributing to achieving the certification.
